LGBTQ+ Histories Amplified: Reclaiming Queer History

Wednesday 7 February 2024 | 14:00 - 15:00 GMT | Virtual

In Partnership with

Welcome to our LGBTQ+ Histories Amplified virtual event in partnership with AfroQueer Studios.  Committed to social impact, we bring you a curated panel of queer speakers representing both white and global majority voices this LGBTQ+ History Month.

LGBTQ+ history is incredibly diverse, yet many mainstream narratives centre the experiences of LGBTQ+ people with privileged identities. Whitewashing is a term used to describe the ways in which certain, privileged narratives erase the experiences and perspectives of historically marginalised LGBTQ+ folks.

Our queer storytellers share with us their connection to their histories, the ways in which these impact the ways they move in this world, and importantly, showcase the role LGBTQ+ resilience and inimitability play in redefining, recreating, and rebuilding more equitable systems for thriving LGBTQ+ communities.

Equality Leaders

A rich myriad of LGBTQ+ histories across the globe exist; it is these histories which tell us stories of LGBTQ+ pioneers, disruptors, activists, innovators, community leaders, as well as tales of joy and belonging.

It is time we retell queer histories, recognising that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people have been and continue to be at the centre of Black, indigenous, and other people of colour movements.
